Max Riechelmann

Max Riechelmann

Senior DevOps & QA Engineer

Airbus AI Autonomy Hub

I was an early adopter of agentic AI for DevOps and have become fluent with it since: augmented, governed software development environments where cloud-native CI/CD and AI agents work hand in hand, always inside deterministic guardrails.

"DevOps culture in aerospace, where the AI insists every mission should be deployed on Fridays."

Background

Computer Science graduate (Diplom), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). I have been into computing since childhood: my first Visual Basic program written with my father, self-run game and community servers through my teens, and Linux, which I taught myself early and got seriously deep into during my civilian service.

I've been professionally active without interruption since that civilian service at 18 — 22 years of professional experience, long as a software developer before moving into DevOps. That's where I found my calling: automation, CI/CD and operations. Currently Senior DevOps & QA Engineer at Airbus' AI Autonomy Hub. The next step is the technical expert career track.

What I Actually Do

The business card says Senior DevOps & QA Engineer. This is what that looks like on a normal Tuesday.

What I do now

  • I own the Software Factory: the shared development environment everyone builds in.
  • Cloud dev environments and CI/CD, set up once, used by every team.
  • DevSecOps governance across the organisation, inside deterministic guardrails.
  • Agentic AI that augments engineers. The guardrails decide what it may touch.
  • V&V for machine learning and autonomy, software in the loop and hardware in the loop.
the part someone pays for

Teaching never stopped

  • Weekly Tech Exchange, the dojo, at the AI Autonomy Hub.
  • Founded a cross-team DevOps guild and still facilitate it.
  • Volunteer teaching for IT apprentices at BBW Waiblingen.
  • Conference speaker. The decks are further down this page.
  • It started as a tutor for Operating Systems at KIT.
since 2013, without a break

How I got here

  • 2005 Civilian service. Linux and Windows administration at a university hospital.
  • 2007 Developer. Ruby, Java and C at Daimler Research, FZI and KIT.
  • 2018 Moved into DevOps. Jenkins, Ansible and OpenShift at automotive clients.
  • 2020 Embedded. AOSP, QNX and SBOMs at Bosch.
  • 2023 Technical Lead DevOps & QA. Started the DevOps transformation at Eltako.
  • 2026 Airbus. Software Factory and agentic AI.
  • next Technical expert career track.
22 years, no gaps

When nobody is paying me

  • One root server. Everything runs in containers, this page included.
  • A personal AI agent setup with self-built MCP servers and persistent memory.
  • Communities I have hosted for years: wispvtt.com, solarwake.de, sw-gaming.org, o9games.
  • Gulaschprogrammiernacht since 2013, CTFs, a wall plotter, a VGA driver on an FPGA.
